 It is a solution of one or more resins which when applied onto the cavity walls, evaporates and leaves a thin resin film, that serves as a barrier between the restoration between the restoration and the dentinal tubules.
Composition
Cavity varnishes have natural gums such as copal, rosin or synthetic resin, which are dissolved in solvent like alcohol, acetone or ether.
Applications
- Varnish reduces pulpal irritation
- Varnish prevents penetration of corrosion products of amalgam into the dentinal tubules and reduces tooth discoloration.
