 Gingivitis is generally defined as inflammation of the gums around the tooth, and has got the name as Gums means Gingiva. It occurs because of the plague caused by the bacteria that adhere to the tooth structure.
Gingivitis is usually caused between the tooth and the gums which is the site of bacterial accumulation, and here the bacteria make changes to the food glucose, sucrose etc. and liberate strong and harmful acids which leads to inflammation of the gums.

Symptoms of Gingivitis:
- Swollen gums
- Bright-red, or purple gums
- Shining of the gums
- Soreness of the mouth

Cause of Gingivitis:
Improper brushing or improper flossing of the teeth leads to the accumulation of the bacteria, which are responsible for the occurence of the disease.
